Things are heating up!

Phew, time flies....I am going to try to be better about blogging as I get closer to the book release date, and since I just figured out how to send posts from my phone it should get a lot easier. Here are some of the updates since January:

* TFH ( the publisher) has hired a publicist for the book. This not only sounds cool, but it means that there will be a greater chance for my book to get media exposure. This is a total luxury. Ever since I started the book, I've heard from experienced writers that it is up to authors to do most of their own marketing. I will still have my fair share, but having Curtin Communications on my side means that I will have access to opportunities that I wouldn't otherwise have.

* WCSTFTD is available for pre-order on Amazon, Powells, Barnes & Noble, etc. I didn't actually know about it until I searched for my own name (I know, I know, narcissistic much?) and I about died when my book actually came up. A couple of friends pre-ordered around the same time, which made my sales ranking (temporarily) shoot up from 1,987,543 to 618,317. I'm back around 2 million now, but I still say it's not bad for a book that hasn't been printed yet. It was really funny because there was an error in the posting of the information to the booksellers that tagged my book as being about reptiles (no reptiles were harmed, or mentioned, in the making of the book) so when my ranking went up, it listed the book as being #7 in sales for reptile books! Hmmm....We Can't Stay Together for the Reptiles?.....

* I love the limelight! After the book is published, probably late April, I will be going to Los Angeles to do a "TV Tour." The publicist sets this up with a production company. I'll go into the studio (at the crack of dawn) and film a bunch of interviews. What shows they end up on will depend on who wants me, but it will likely be smaller local/regional morning shows around the company. Additionally, there is a satellite radio tour planned, in which I can be interviewed in my pajamas if I so choose.

* Press releases and such are being sent out to talk shows, magazines, etc. This all depends on whether the producer that opens the mail is interested and follows through, but it is pretty exciting to think that Oprah, Ellen and Phil are all getting mail with my name on it!

* Publishers Weekly ran an image of the book cover in it's annual spring 2008 listings issue. PW is an industry publication where bookstores and book buyers look to find out what's happening, what's hot in the book world for next season.

I can hardly believe this is all real and I can't wait to see where it all goes! - Jen
